Permanent Lights Vancouver & Lower Mainland: DIY permanent roofline lighting kits
Permanent lights stay on your eaves all year, tucked into a low-profile aluminum track. Use them for Christmas, Diwali, Lunar New Year, Halloween, Canucks game nights or warm white everyday accent lighting, all switched from your phone. Maple Glow LED ships complete do-it-yourself kits to homeowners in Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Langley, Coquitlam, Delta, North Vancouver and Abbotsford.
Built for West Coast rain
Lower Mainland homes deal with months of rain rather than deep cold. From November through March, many weeks bring rain on most days, and the dark, wet evenings start early. Water is the main enemy of outdoor lighting, so every pixel we sell sits in an IP67 waterproof pod with sealed male/female connectors. The 12V Mean Well power supply is not waterproof, so mount it indoors or in our IP67 outdoor enclosure box, and keep connections off the ground and away from gutters that overflow.
Because the lights are permanent, there's no climbing a slick ladder in December to hang strings, and no tangled bins to store in spring.
How permanent lights work
A permanent lighting system has four parts. A slim aluminum channel screws to the fascia or under the soffit. Individual pixel lights press into pre-drilled holes in that channel, so they sit in a straight, evenly spaced line. A 12V power supply, usually mounted in the garage or in a weatherproof box near an outdoor outlet, feeds the run. A small Wi-Fi controller tells every pixel what colour to show. Because each pixel can be set on its own, the same lights can do a solid warm white, alternating red and green, team colours, slow fades or chasing patterns, and you change them from the app instead of a ladder.
Lower Mainland rooflines
Housing in the Lower Mainland is varied: Vancouver Specials and older bungalows with one long, low roofline, newer Surrey and Langley two-storey homes with several gables, and townhouses where you may only light your own unit's eaves (check your strata bylaws first). Measure each eave you want lit and add them up. Many homes are close to their neighbours, so look at side eaves carefully and decide whether lighting them is worth it.
Coastal salt air near White Rock, Delta and Richmond is another reason to keep connections sealed and the power supply enclosed. Aluminum track does not rust, and the pods are sealed, but check that every connector is fully seated and pointed so water runs off rather than into it. Plan the install for a dry stretch in late summer or early fall, so the system is ready before the wet season and the early December sunsets.

Frequently asked questions
Are the lights waterproof enough for Vancouver rain?
The pixel pods are IP67 rated and use sealed connectors. Keep the power supply indoors or in an IP67 enclosure, since the supply itself is not waterproof.
Do I need strata approval for a townhouse?
Often, yes. Many stratas have bylaws about exterior changes. Check with your strata council before installing track on the building.
Do you install in the Lower Mainland?
No. Maple Glow LED sells materials only. You can install a kit yourself or hire your own installer.
What voltage are the lights?
All our lights, power supplies and kits are 12V and matched to each other.
